Kristi Lyn Glass Wins Handmade Business Magazine Award

Lamoille, NV, full-spectrum artist Kristi Lyn Glass received an “Artist of Note” award as one of six finalists for Handmade Business magazine’s Handmade Entrepreneur of the Year 2019. The magazine’s December 2019 issue announced the Winner, Runner-up, and four Artists of Note in early October.

” It’s a very special honor to receive this award,” Glass said. “Handmade Business magazine has long been my go-to source of information and mentoring regarding my business decisions as an artist and entrepreneur. Every issue contains several articles of use to me in my endeavors.”

Award Selection Criteria

  1. Must be a handmade artist-founded business entrepreneur with three or more years of operation
  2. Must have an online presence, such as a standalone website and/or active social media pages
  3. Must produce high-quality, unique, original works of art or fine crafts
  4. Should be actively engaged in local, regional, or national community events or organizations, charities, professional guilds, schools, art colonies, or clubs, etc.

Background

Glass was an active artist in St. Paul, Minnesota, before moving to NE Nevada in 1996. Her works have appeared and sold in many gallery shows and art fairs.

“My artwork is complex, and it usually needs to tell a story,” said Glass. “I love things that sparkle and glow with vibrant color. I am always pushing my creative envelope, exploring and often mixing a variety of media, including watercolor, stained glass, enamels, encaustics, resin, and digital art.”

“In addition to producing amazing fine art, I feel compelled to invent and create products that are practical yet bring joy and beauty into everyday life,” the artist adds.

Testaments to this include her artisan jewelry and other unique and diverse products, such as SteedBeads™  rhythm beads (jingling necklaces for real and model horses), Protestant prayer beads, and embellished glass-topped pill organizers and UnderCovers (decorative secret storage cubes). She markets her creations locally and on her website https://KristiLynGlass.com,  Pinterest, and Ebay.

In its October 2019 issue, Handmade Business featured Glass’ submission regarding her successful in-studio demos. The article included two of her demo-related photos.

Recent New Products

In 2018, Glass began making resin-topped local area photo magnets using pictures taken on her many local horseback rides. The magnets are available for $4.00 each at the Elko Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northeastern Nevada Museum gift shops.

“I serendipitously got into filling this need through custom magnet orders by residents of Wells and Montello, Nevada,” Glass shared. “My beautiful strong magnets are selling well. Buyers particularly appreciate the ones that feature scenes from Lamoille Canyon before it burned last year. The ones that have text saying ‘Someone from Elko NV loves you’ are also popular to send to out-of-state friends and relatives. I made similar ones for Wells, Montello, Kittridge Canyon, Ryndon, and Osino that feature pictures of those small communities. I only made a few of each of those, though, so if potential buyers want and cannot find them or if they want their own pictures made into magnets, they may place custom orders.”

Inspired by her large stash of tiny glass bottles, Glass recently turned them into unique fish bowl necklaces. In each bottle, a realistic tiny goldfish or clown fish swims in clear resin in an aquatic environment. These limited-edition creations are available on her website and at the Northeastern Nevada Museum gift shop.

Summary

“God keeps sending me down creative rabbit holes with the directive that I must share the results of my explorations,” Glass summed up. “Check out my website and blog to find out where I’ve been and where I’m headed next.”
