Handmade Business Magazine Article on Kristi Lyn Glass

Encaustic Miniatures

An article in the October 2019 issue of Handmade Business magazine showcases my experiences with studio demonstrations of my encaustic (melted wax) painting.  I responded to an email query from the magazine awhile back asking for answers to the following questions:

  • What worked and what didn’t with your studio demonstration(s)?
  • Will you do another one? Why or why not?
  • Do you have any advice on the best way to engage customers?
  • Have studio demonstrations helped your business?

The article includes verbatim my rather lengthy responses to these questions plus two of my submitted pictures. Although there are eight other responses from handmade product creators, such as glass, textile, pottery, and wood workers, none include more than one photo. Mine is the only response from a fine artist.

At my annual Open Studio events, I demonstrate melted wax painting. I also let attendees play with my wax tools to make their own small paintings to take home. This offering increases attendance, and I have a lot of fun sharing my knowledge with others.

I am honored to have my submission included in this article. Handmade Business never fails to provide me with an abundance of useful information and tools to help me market my creations. I highly recommend it to other creators of handmade products.
