Our New Horse: Sterling!

Sterling

Our new Quarter Horse gelding, Sterling.

This is to introduce our new guest/pack horse, Sterling. We acquired him March 12 in Yankee Hill, CA, through a friend of a friend and brought him home to Ruby Shoes that day, where he is settling in well with our other three horses. His former owner regretfully had to sell him because one of her vertebrae has disintegrated entirely, and she will have her spine fused in March to hopefully reduce her pain level. She may never be able to ride again, so she wanted her horse to go to a home where he would be used and appreciated.

Sterling was born in Kansas where he was primarily used to push cattle around in cattle pens. He is a registered Quarter Horse, 9 years old, turning 10 this summer. He is 15.1h, a nice looking dapple gray with a black mane and tail. His papered name is Diamond Good Hands, and his grandsire is Jackie Bee, also a gray, who traces back to the My Texas Dandy line of running and roping horses.

Sterling is seemingly bomb proof, well broke, and non-scary, which is just what we were looking for. He is very friendly, and has a light mouth and nice gaits. He most recently has been used for trail and mountain riding.

Our horse search began March 1, and Sterling was the first and only horse we looked at. Given the many wild goose chases we’ve been on searching for horses in the past, this seemed like a miracle. We hope Sterling will live up to his credentials and name and be the perfect horse for us!
